Marta's Monterosa Blog

I am passionate about the Alps. They are my heart's home and the place where I would like to spend the last day of my life. I have been a tourist in the village of Champoluc in the Italian Monterosa for all my life and worked as a tourist operator in this area since more than 15 years.

I believe in respect for the special environment of this place that you can find only here. We all gain by enjoying its beauty, while trying to make a minimum impact at the same time. Leave it for our children in the future!

I believe in respect for people who live here with their traditions and culture, language, and work, their genuine products and delicious wines. They open their homes for us, tourists and meet us as their guests, if we are able to open our hearts for them. I have a friend who is a hotel owner and he says that when stressed people from the city come to his place, he tells them to sit down and take a drink before they even begin to worry if they have a room. Perhaps, we can bring a little of their kindness and calmness with us on our way back to the city.

My philosophy is to give back a little of what the mountains and the people from this place have given to me and to my family through my work, to communicate my philosophy and my passion to those who follow me on the blog, and in my trips as a tour operator.

If you would like to visit Champoluc, Gressoney, Alagna or other villages in the Aosta Valley, trek or ski in the Monterosa, discover Sardinia or other places we offer, contact us.

Cervinia will link to Zermatt and Monterosa Ski

A plan to expand Zermatt-Cervinia ski area can make Monterosa Ski the world’s 2nd biggest ski area! „In the Snow” magazine dedicates its first article of the February issue to the very promising project in the Aosta Valley.

Nowadays, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise links the Swiss resort Zermatt and Italian Breuil-Cervinia. It is 360km of piste, but with an expanding plan and 180km extra it can be the world’s 2nd biggest ski area – 540km total!

Thanks to the newly planned, two-stage lift there could be a link to Monterosa Ski in the Aosta Valley – to Champoluc and Alagna. The Alplinks project will start in Frachey (Champoluc) and go to Cime Bianche Valley (Valtournenche/Cervinia). It means that even from Gressoney or Ayas skiers will be able to ski over to Zermatt area without having to go to Cervinia first.

It is estimated that the new lift will cost €51 million (almost £39 million) to construct, with the first stage consisting of 10-man cabins and the second stage of 35-man cabins.
That has now moved closer to realisation after Ayas – the last of the municipalities involved
in the project – voted in favour, following Valtournenche, Zermatt, Gressoney-La-Trinité and Gressoney-Saint-Jean which had already approved the plan,

informs “In the Snow”.

Although, there is still a lot of work, including looking for more financial support. It is estimated that the project could be finished within 5-6 years.

This project will be so important for the Monte Rosa area because it will transform our resorts ... with important economic consequences for the future of all the valleys that are involved,

says The Head of Tourism for Gressoney-La-Trinité, Paolo Maria Viganò.
