Early season skiing. For many it’s simply the anticipation and excitement of getting back on the slopes. For others it’s the lack of crowds and low prices.

Zermatt and Cervinia share a ski area including glaciers that enable skiing every day of the year from the Swiss side. Cervinia does its best to extend the available terrain down the mountain as winter approaches, so that by late November if not before you can normally ski all the way back to village. Once the first real winter snow has fallen, it is likely to stay due to the ski area's incomparable height. By December, snow cover is often complete and the entire domaine open which stretches through three valleys in two countries, Italy and Switzerland, from the 3883 m of the Piccolo Cervino descending to the 1524 m of Valtournenche.

Cervinia will keep open this weekend 20th-21st October and from 27th October to 5th May. Summer skiing is offered here from the end of June to the beginning of September.

Saas-Fee on the Swiss side of Monterosa offers top skiing conditions all year around. Most of the slopes are north-facing and above 2500m. Saas- Fee keeps open for skiing from July to April.
