SMALL HISTORICAL NOTICE
For a long time, the countrymen of Ormont-Dessus live by themselves. Their life conditions give them an unusual strength and bravery. The beginning of the XVIth century marks the definitive organisation of two distinct communes : Ormont-Dessus and Ormont-Dessous.
By the end of the XIXth century, only a bumpy road links the commune to the valley and the region is still unknown to the foreigners.
For a long time, the commune lives by its own means. It’s between the middle of the XIXth century and 1914 that the development of the communications (roads, post, railway) allows the sudden intensification of the exchanges with the valley and the fast development of the tourism. The beginning of the exploitation, in July 1914, of the mountain train Aigle - Le Sépey - Les Diablerets ends up the integration of this region.
The two world wars and the economic crisis of the thirties slow down the touristic phenomena, but a few years after the war, the commune of Ormont-Dessus takes a new start. Today, the touristic reputation of Les Diablerets is confirmed.
