In an area with an exceptional microclimate lies this beautiful little village which benefits from sunny weather and nice temperature. Grimentz is one of the most typical villages of the Wallis area, recommended because it has nothing of a resort built for tourism. It has kept its authenticy, even though it offers many sports and attractions for tourists. Grimentz has been a ski resort since 1968 and the village has 430 inhabitants and offers a great deal of cultural experiences, the first people who inhabited the Grimentz was the Celts. The skiing conditions here are great due to the high altitude of the village, which makes a good snow quality. Also worth mentioning are the thermal baths discovered in 1992 and now being made a health center with a view over the entire valley.

Join a guided tour around the Bourgeoisial House (admission free) and discover the interesting village of Grimentz and its population. It shelters both a collection of cans and a wine cellar with the famous barrels of "Vin du Glacier". The bread baking ceremony was a monthly event until the beginning of the 20th century. The oven today is lit on Mondays and on Wednesdays the baking takes place. You will leave with bread under your arm and your head full of anecdotes.

Here are some examples of activities offered to you: Cross-country-skiing The trail of Roua is a trail suitable for beginners. On your way you will discover most of the villages in the Valley. Along the track there are several benches where you can sit down and enjoy the view. The Ilôt Bosquet is a circuit of 3 km for intermediate skiers, where you start out in the village and climb up a rising altitude. Walking trails The Zirouc is a promenade for the more experienced ones. The trail raises regularly until you reach the outline of Chierne. Then there is a slope down to Mottec and from there you have the possibility to take a ski bus back to Grimentz. Sledging, curling, snowshoe excursions and paragliding are also possible activities for outdoor sports.

New Year's eve In the evening on the 31st of December the guests of Grimentz have the opportunity to participate in the nocturnal descent on ski. Afterwards everybody is invited to see fireworks and have warm wine to the sound of drums and flutes.
Carnival
Carnival is celebrated on Shrove Tuesday. All the employees wear costumes according to the theme of the evening. The best disguise will win a prize, the arrangers serve raclettes and drinks and the evening ends with a ball.
Every year Grimentz arranges a skiing competition, which lasts for two weeks. Both beginners and professionals are welcome to participate.
Easter
Children march in the streets, carrying instruments of wood as a symbol for the bells of Rome. Another tradition is the painting of eggs, which takes place on the Easter Sunday.

Skiing in the moonlight
Once a month, in the light of the full moon, the Skilift Association organizes an evening party. The evening begins with fondue and aperitifs in the mountain restaurant and continues with a tour with the skilift up to 3,000 meters. Then the descent of 1245 meters starts in the moonlight. Snow shoe excursions Like the trappers of Northern Canada Simon Espiny will take you for a nocturnal promenade in the forest of Ilot Bosquet. The evening ends with eating Rosti.

There is a good range of restaurants and each offer a speciality. The cooking of the region is both tasty and filling and not for the weight conscious... For those who stay up at night There are two bars/pubs with young and nice atmosphere. There is also a disco and you should definitely taste their specialties: the sirop du cowboy and the Woodoo.

This ski area is suitable for all kinds of skiers and the slopes are of a changing difficulty. You are able to enjoy long downhill runs and very good snow conditions due to the high altitude. The skipasses also allow you to ski in the areas in the neighborhood. There is a free ski-bus between Grimentz and Zinal. There are also buses connecting with the other ski resorts in the Val d'Anniviers.

There are 320 beds in hotels, 4000 beds in rooms, chalets and apartments, 285 beds in group accommodation and some private rooms and apartments. The hotels all have different characters, which they get from their owner. One for example is an awarded accordion player and another hotel is in the Guide Michelin.
