Grächen is a very friendly ski resort that can offer all entertainment you might wish for during a winter vacation. Included in that entertainment is 40 kilometers of great pistes, most suitable for intermediate skiers, and plenty of sunshine. Grächen is the resort with the most days of sunshine per year in the Swiss Alps. You can look forward to more than a great skiing experience and nice tan though. Visit some of the great restaurants and bars after you are done skiing for the day. This could be almost as entertaining as skiing itself.
Grächen is a great place for families and especially the children. The resort has something called a Kinder- Wunderwelt, where the kids can play all sorts of snow games. The "wonderworld" is a huge place where the kids are free to do basically whatever they feel like.
Experiences of its own are the cozy great restaurants in Grächen. You should really try a couple of the local dishes to get a feel for traditional Swiss food. You will also find discotheques, bars and pubs available and if you would like to you can listen to a concert by a local band.
Long slopes is Grächen's strength
Grächen's ski area is excellent for intermediate skiers; there are many very long red slopes. Advanced skiers will also appreciate the beautiful slopes, even though only two of them are really tough black ones. Beginners have a couple of easier runs up in the mountain, and one really long run that goes through the woods down to the parking site. To reach that slope you must pass a number of red runs, and that can be difficult for a novice to accomplish, though.
The natural snow can be lacking sometimes, but that's because of the many beautiful sunny days. Artificial snow helps covering the slopes, and you should always be able to ski the larger slopes during the winter.
Snowboarders are also allowed to enjoy themselves in the slopes, and additional entertainment can be found in the recently built half pipe or snow park.
A ski school is available and it has over forty experienced instructors and can give both group and private lessons.
Grächen offers a number of nice three star hotels of which Eden and La Collina can be recommended. You will also find many different smaller guesthouses and convenient apartments for rent.
By car: From Zürich to Bern, Lötschberg, Visp and the finally Grächen.
