Imagine skiing down a slope with 1200 meters altitude difference to a mountain balcony. There you ascend again with a rotating cabin, showing one of the greatest views over the Alps in the world. Then, after skiing down off-piste you continue down another eight hundred vertical meters to the village to eat a fantastic meal and relax in a comfortable hotel. That's what Engelberg and one of its ski areas, Titlis, has to offer. But Engelberg, located south of Zürich, Switzerland, can give you more. Don't miss a fantastic ski adventure!
There are two different kindergartens for your children. There they will be well taken care of, enjoy them selves and learn some skiing.
Cross-country skiing is an excellent choice when you wish to vary your activities. The trails available are 39 kilometers long. Another option is to skate along one of the skating trails, which total length is 20 kilometers.
Night life in Engelberg There are a couple of good restaurants and bars in the ski area where you can relax and enjoy your self. Alternatively, you can eat in the town where you also can find discos, concerts, cinemas and a casino with slot machines and roulette.
Titlis and Brunni have got something for everybody Engelberg's ski area is quite unique and includes one of the greatest vertical drops in the Alps. It is divided in two bigger lift systems. One of them rises up to the 3000 meters high Titlis, the other to the Brunni ski area (1860 meters above sea level). Both systems are connected with a free ski bus.
The Titlis ski area has two 'balconies', one at 1262 meters and the next at 1800. The lower one has a couple of good, easy slopes and a toboggan run. The upper one, Trübsee, has also a few easy runs and, more importantly, carriers up to the harder runs. One of the carriers is the world's first revolving cabin, giving you a beautiful view over the Alps.
On the top of Titlis you can choose between different, more difficult slopes. Although it is few black slopes the expert skier should be satisfied with the red slopes. In the same manner, the intermediate might find the red slopes a little bit difficult but varied. Finally, if the conditions are right, you can ski off-piste down the Laub for a real challenge.
The Brunni ski area is a lot easier, and the beginner should appreciate the long slopes. You can also find a couple of medium-difficult runs.
The snow is usually good, at least over Trübsee where you can find snow during the whole year.
The hotels in Engelberg are all of good quality. Some are also very inexpensive, by Swiss standards.
Go to Zurich by air and then continue either by rail or by car. If you choose by rail you take the connection to Luzern and then change to Luzern-Stans-Engelberg. By car you drive on and leave the N2 motorway at Stans-Süd and continue along the main road to reach Engelberg.
