The villages of Brigels, Waltensburg and Andiast, in the small and delightful holiday region of the same name in the Rhaeto-Romanic language area of Grisons, lie on an open mountain terrace at between 1000 and 1300 metres above sea level and are wonderfully blessed by the sun. The car can also enjoy a break here as the leisure activities, accommodation, restaurants and places of interest are all within walking distance.
A small indoor heated swimming pool (in the Hotel La Val), rental service for children’s items, games library, 15 km of tracks suitable for prams, family hotels and much more are available in a compact area and far away from the hustle and bustle and the traffic. Children can saunter through the village alone, buy local specialities from the baker or collect milk and ice cream from the farmer.
Winter sports for families – Right at the edge of the village is the snow-covered Snowli Kinderland (with a rope lift, magic carpet and more) of the Swiss Snow Sports School SSBWA. The second class is already able to ski on the slopes in the ski area. For fun and a little variety, visitors can also try snowtubing (two 100 m snake runs), three toboggan runs of up to 4.5 km in length each, an ice field, the snow flurry programme, children’s evenings with the snow sports school and much more.
35 km of sign-posted and well-kept winter hiking trails in a terrace location doused in sunlight are ideal for walks and longer hikes.
A further 35 km of snowshoe trails lead to the deep snowfields around the villages. With GPS and snowshoes, adventurers can look forward to an exciting treasure hunt.
The excellent preparation of the ski runs and the XXL-wide pistes, the diverse winter sports facilities and the manageability of this compact area are its defining features in the winter.
With its 75 km of pistes, the ski area is suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers who prefer to see more landscape than lift masts. On 18 km of the runs, including both of the valley runs, artificial snowmaking guarantees skiing right up to Easter. Every Friday, there is the opportunity to go night skiing.
Several mountain restaurants, bars, a free skiing zone, boardercross/rails and much more round off the delights of the mountains.
The Schweizer Schneesportschule Brigels-Waltensburg-Andiast has designed a ski area for beginners, which is an ideal place for all levels of learning and abilities. Wide slopes, lots of space, wave and hollow park including "easy" lifting - ideal for learning!
Littles which never skied before are using the "carpet lift" to get upwards. The lift called "Pinocchio" is equiped with a plastic rope and so easily to ride, that even two-year-olds are able to handle it independently. The "Plaitlift" is especially designated for level 1 and A and helps kids to make first downhill experience.
