The valley of ski flying hills
The alpine valley of Planica is situated only seven kilometers from Kranjska Gora, at the very border with Italy. Together with the neighboring village of Ratece, the valley of Planica has only 650 inhabitants, but it is, nevertheless, well known throughout the world. Already before the war the construction of ski-jumps had begun in the area between Planica and the deepest end of Tamar, below the two thousand-meter high Ponce Mountains.

International ski-jump competitions were organized and, following the last war, ski-flight competitions were also introduced. This "valley of ski-jumps" now boast six ski-jumps with lengths of 25, 120 and 180 meters. Big ski-jump competitions are organized here every year with the participation of the world's top ski-jump elite. Near the ski jumps in Planica there is also a small ski lift at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. Tobogganing is also possible in Planica. Ratece and Planica have several good restaurants and 200 beds are available in private rooms.
The winters in Planica are long, cold and with plenty of snow. Near the ski-jumps there's one ski lift at an altitude of 900 m.
Planica is a true paradise for cross-country skiers. From here, lovely cross-country ski runs stretch out in all directions: to Kranjska Gora and further on towards Gozd Martuljek, along the ski jumps to the alpine hostel in the Tamar valley, as well as several runs across the meadows to the Italian border and Tarvisio on the Italian side. Don't forget to bring your passport!
There is a ski school and a nursery for children.
The only way to get to Planica is by road, which forks at Ratece. To get to Ratece from the rest of Slovenia take the highway from Ljubljana by way of Kranj, through Jesenice and Kranjska Gora.
