The resort has been welcoming international visitors since 1890 and yet it has managed to remain completely unspoilt. Queuing is virtually unheard of in Geilo as there is an extremely efficient lift system which spreads skiers across four main mountain faces. The ski area behind the village has a choice of wide open cruising runs on the huge snow-fields above the tree-line. Geilos uncrowded slopens, perfect snow conditions and English speaking ski school make it a recommended choice for beginners and intermediates
Geilo is a place which welcomes all children. Several of the ski resorts arrange activities specifically geared toward children, some in protected areas, where youth of all ages can enjoy themselves on their own terms together with parents or activities leaders. The ski resort also feature special areas for children with indoor games as well as child care. If parents are looking for baby-sitting service for children under the age of 3, this can easily be arranged, provided the staff receives some advance notice. If you bring your children to Geilo, rest assured that they will enjoy a safe, pleasant and fun-filled stay.

Gelilo The mountain community of Geilo would not be the same if it had not been for the magnificent nature of the surrounding area. In Hol County, where Geilo is the largest municipality, 90% of the area is comprised of mountains and plains. A stay at Geilo gives you many opportunities for great winter experiences.
For Beginners: A highly recommended choice, with reliable snow, an excellent English-speaking ski school and specially designed beginners' area in which to gain your confidence. With lots of resort activities to try out also, Geilo is an excellent choice for your first winter holiday.
For Intermediates: With its efficient life system spreading skiers out across four main mountain faces, queuing is virtually unheard of in Geilo, so you can ski non-stop on the excellent value lift-pass. The Vestlia area offers all grades of pistes from top to bottom, making it ideal for mixed ability groups or families, while the main ski area immediately behind the village has a choice of wide open cruising runs on the huge snow-field above the tree-line, and a variety of runs down to the village through the trees.
For Advanced: Geilo's seven black runs include a couple of testing mogul runs, but the resort does not claim to cater for aggressive expert skiers. For good skiers keen to try a new challenge, however, Geilo Ski school also instructs in a graceful art of Telemark skiing (not as easy as it looks!!) Snowboarding. Geilo welcomes snowboarders with one half pipe and a NEW SUPER-PIPE with surrounding snowboard parks with lots of specially designed terrain for "taking air"! The resort is frequent host for international events, and equipment and tuition are readily available.
Ski schoolThe ski schools , located at all the ski centres, are for everyone. Here adults and children alike can get know-how and instructions on all subjects. Geilo´s ski schools are also geared toward making accomplished skiers even better skiers. In addition, the ski schools arrange their own races, tobogganing competitions, ski games etc.
