Volcanic skiing
Set on the still active volcano of Mt Ruapehu, Whakapapa is the largest ski resort on the northern island. There are over 30 ski slopes and plenty of steeps and coulouirs for the experts. You'll find nice open runs and beautiful off-piste to fill your ski week with! Hope for a bit of luck though, the volcano is eruptive and the Whakapapa ski area was closed during the winter of 1996 because of several eruptions!
