Saariselkä is a skiing center formed by two fells, Kaunispää and Iisakkipää, with a total fo 10 slopes varying from extremely easy beginners' slopes to those intended for advanced skiers. Special attention has also been paid to snowboarders who have a superhalfpipe for their speedy runs and jump.
Saariselkä provides exceptionally good opportunities for cross-country skiing. The illuminated tracks, versatile terrain in the fells and long skiing season offer the skiers a variety of alternatives to chose from. Snowmobiles, huskydog sledges, reindeer sleds, lappish feasts, icefishing, mountainbiking, visits to the reindeerfarm, canoeing and magnificent hiking surroundings.
Saariselkä area has 8 hotels, a spa, many company and private owned cabins and apartments (about 11 500 bedplaces), 19 restaurants, 10 programme companies, a crocery store, a sport clothes and hiking equipment store and many small souvenir shops and boutiques.
Lapland has a good highway network which makes it easy to travel around. Tourists can take an overnight train from southern Finland to Rovaniemi and continue their journey by bus. The fastest way to reach Lapland is by plane. It takes only about 1.5 hours to fly from Helsinki to Ivalo. There are bus services from the airport to Saariselkä, Ivalo, Inari and surrounding villages.
