Stanton Ski Opening from 27th to 29th November On Friday 27th November, St Anton am Arlberg starts the ski season and the mountain cable cars and lifts start up again after 200 days of skiing abstinence. He/she will exclusively take the Galzigbahn on the morning of 27th November and be served with champagne and canapés and will be the first skier of the winter to launch the season in St Anton am Arlberg. Back down in the valley the skiing operations will then be opened for everyone. At the same time as the lifts open, the 3-day test period for ski, snowboard and Telemark begins. Winter sportsmen can try out the latest materials from Friday to Sunday free of charge. With live bands and demo shows the party atmosphere prevails at the Galzigbahn from first thing in the morning. On Friday evening there will be a large Après-Ski-Test Party with Retro Fashion Show. On Saturday 28th November a huge challenge takes place with the XXL GIANT Slalom – the longest giant slalom in the world. From 4th to 6th December the radio station SWR3 from Baden-Baden will broadcast to its listeners for the second time from the Tyrolean winter sport paradise with live reports from St Anton am Arlberg. 11th Arlberg Pass Krampalar Procession on 5th December The Krampus Procession in St Anton am Arlberg is considered a secret tip under the custom of St Nikolaus. On the 5th December, young lads from the village accompany the St Nikolaus throughout the holiday destination. The Krampalar, as they are called here in the Arlberg, wear terrifying masks, which are often self-carved and painted, as well as a so-called "Devil Skin". However, nobody needs to be afraid - the Krampalar are quite peaceful. "Tennis Trophy" St Anton am Arlberg from 10th to 12th December Before the tennis circus flies to the other end of the world to the first Grand Slam tournament of 2010 in Melbourne, some of the top players meet in St Anton am Arlberg. "Schneetreiben/Snowstorm" with fireworks The premiere of the Ski Show "Schneetreiben/Snowstorm" is on 30th December and from the 6th January, every Wednesday, visitors, locals, and Skifreaks can regularly attend a multimedia time travel through the world of skiing. The Tourist Office of St Anton am Arlberg, together with the ski schools, present a spectacular demo show in the WM-Finish Stadium where the topic is the historical development of skiing and techniques from its beginnings up to today. The entrance is free; however it is also possible to buy tickets for the Show Lounge at a price of 25 euros where one can enjoy the "Snowstorm" with dinner and a good glass of wine in the glazed lounge followed by a visit to the roof of the lounge which promises a marvellous view of the area. "The White Thrill" - 500 international participants meet on the 24th April at an altitude of 2,650m for the mass start in two groups. Skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers rush down from the Vallugagrat to the valley below. On the way they must unfasten the skis, climb 150 metres up 37 altitude metres, put the skis back on again and continue the rush. The nine kilometre long departure takes place in the afternoon under demanding piste conditions and in addition to the great sporting achievement above all is the joy of completing the race. Better Value Package Deals in the Snow Snow Crystal and Wedel weeks from 28th November until 19th December The first of the popular package deals is available to coincide with the opening of the season: the Snow Crystal Week from 28th November to 5th December. During this period the ski pass costs 25 per cent less than the already economical off-season rates and numerous hotels and pensions offer favourable prices and package deals. The Snow Crystal Week is followed by the Wedel Weeks. For two weeks, from 5th to 19th December, St Anton am Arlberg sweetens the pre-Christmas period with special offers. Powder snow weeks from 9th to 30th January January is the month for deep snow fans, specialists and the fun carver and conversation turns to "first tracks" in the 180 kilometres of deep snow which await the winter sportsmen who are desperate to make the magical first turns in the untouched powder. Travel without the car – no problem! A car is not necessary in St Anton The journey to St Anton am Arlberg should be just as relaxed as the holiday itself. The train station is situated in the centre of the village and all important international express trains stop here. Plus: St Anton am Arlberg even has its own train at its disposal. The "St Anton am Arlberg" Intercity Express passes to and fro between Vienna and Bregenz and, of course, stops at St Anton am Arlberg. Anyone who stays in the village does not need a car. The base stations of the mountain lifts are located in the centre and shops and restaurants are all within walking distance. Moreover, shuttle buses run regularly between the St Anton suburbs as well as throughout the complete holiday area.
