When the first skier swept down Arlberg’s slopes more than one hundred years ago (it was in fact the priest from the parish of Warth) no-one could have dreamt that the 700 year old village would one day become a world famous winter-sports resort. Lech and the outlying hamlets of Oberlech, Stubenbach, Zug and Zürs form one large and infinitely varied ski region, where pistes reach right down to the hotel doorstep and where guests from every corner of the world feel right at home. For, despite world renown, Lech has preserved its traditional Alpine village character, harmonious architecture and hospitable, holiday atmosphere.

The ski pistes of every difficulty grade, ski trails and open ski terrain lie at altitudes of between 1,450 and 2,800 metres. Cable cars, chair lifts and drag lifts carry winter holiday-makers to the most attractive slopes between Rüfikopf, Madloch, Kriegerhorn and Mohnenfluh. There are 86 different lift installations, 260 km of tended pistes and 180 km of descents in open terrain, catering for skiers of every persuasion. Arlberg Ski passes are electronically operated with a “hands free” system and cover the Arlberg resorts of Lech, Zürs, Stuben, St. Anton and St. Christoph. The local ski schools employ some 400 instructors with world-class qualifications. There is a Fun Park for snowboarders, 26 km of tracks for cross-country skiers, 15 km of cleared winter hiking trails, a natural toboggan run with floodlighting, horse-drawn sleigh rides and a host of exciting events, from a Christmas Market to a Arlberg Open Space Free Ride Event. Accommodation in Lech-Zürs is of an excellent standard in every category and many hotels have health and fitness facilities. Après Ski thrives here in the restaurants, open air Snow Bars, night bars and clubs.
